Crisis Assistance Ministry is proud to announce the promotion of Shelly Biby to Chief Advancement Officer (CAO). With two decades of experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and strategic communications, Biby brings a wealth of expertise and a deep commitment to community impact to her new role.
Since joining Crisis Assistance Ministry in 2024 as Director of Philanthropy, Biby has significantly enhanced the agency’s fundraising and donor engagement strategies. Her leadership has been instrumental in expanding partnerships and increasing resources to support the organization’s mission of providing assistance to people in financial crisis.
Before her tenure at Crisis Assistance Ministry, Biby served as Chief Operating Officer at MeckEd, a nonprofit dedicated to educational equity. In this role, she led both operations and advancement, successfully expanding the organization’s reach and impact. Notably, she stepped in as acting CEO during a critical leadership transition, demonstrating her capacity to guide organizations through periods of change with stability and vision.
“Shelly brings an exceptional blend of strategic thinking, operational leadership, and a passion for helping her neighbors,” said Carol Hardison, CEO of Crisis Assistance Ministry. “It was clear during her first year that her experience and values align perfectly with our mission to assist people in financial crisis and preserve dignity for those seeking our assistance.”
In this role, Biby will lead the team responsible for the agency’s philanthropic initiatives, including major gifts, individual giving, corporate and foundation partnerships, communications, volunteerism and community engagement strategies. Her strategy will be guided by a comprehensive assessment conducted by the Vandever Batten consulting firm, which highlighted the need for expansive growth in response to the increasing number of citizens lacking affordable housing in the community.
Biby is a fellow of the American Leadership Forum Cohort XX. She will participate in the upcoming Leadership Charlotte Class 47, continuing her investment in collaborative leadership and civic engagement across the region.
“I’m honored to continue my work with the dedicated team at Crisis Assistance Ministry in this new role,” said Biby. “This organization is a cornerstone of dignity and stability in our community, and I’m excited to help deepen its impact through meaningful partnerships and bold storytelling.”
Biby’s appointment marks a new chapter in the organization’s efforts to stabilize housing and support long-term financial stability for thousands of Mecklenburg County families in need.
