Free Tax Prep Meck is back. IRS-Certified tax preparation at no cost to qualifying individuals.

February 9, 2026

It’s tax time, which means the Free Tax Prep Meck program is now scheduling appointments for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Managed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), VITA Free Tax Prep Meck is staffed by IRS-certified partners and volunteers in our community. Free help is available to qualifying individuals, including:

  • People who generally make $69,000 or less
  • Persons with disabilities; and
  • Limited English-speaking taxpayers.

Free Tax Prep Meck Progam Sites Expanded for 2026

Ada Jenkins Center has expanded locations across Mecklenburg County for 2026, with many sites offering walk-in services. Current year and prior year tax preparation is available at every location. To find a site near you, check the Ada Jenkins VITA program page or refer to the list below. Locations providing Spanish language tax preparation can be found on the VITA Latino website.

Each Free Tax Prep Meck site offers:

  • IRS-Certified Tax Preparation: Every volunteer preparer undergoes rigorous tax law training that meets or exceeds IRS standards. To ensure accuracy, every return is subject to a quality review before it is filed.
  • Secure Electronic Filing (E-filing): Filing your return electronically is the fastest and safest way to submit your taxes. It ensures quicker processing by the IRS and a faster arrival of your refund.
  • Expert Guidance on Credits: Volunteers are trained to identify specific deductions and credits you may be eligible for, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Child Tax Credit, which can provide a significant financial boost to your household.

Every day, 75 families shop at no cost for clothing and household goods at our free store. While many of us think nothing of a shopping trip for new clothes, for our neighbors with limited incomes, shopping at no cost turns what could be a financial burden into a fresh start!

Flat tire? Trip to urgent care? Things happen. For many of our neighbors however, when that thing happens, something in their budget has to give. That's where Crisis Assistance Ministry gives hope. We provide emergency financial assistance for rent and utility costs when a family faces financial crisis.
