A diverse group of about 90 Charlotte residents traveled to Montgomery, Alabama to explore America’s complicated history and ongoing story of racial injustice and social change. “We have to learn our history, ” reflected one participant, “so that we can pass it on to our children.”

Prosperity Now Ranks North Carolina 41st in Financial Health
The 2019 Prosperity Now Scorecard ranks North Carolina 41st out of the 50 states plus the District of Columbia in terms of the financial health of residents. The Scorecard calculates 52 outcome measures such as household income, access to credit, and net worth.

Crisis Assistance Ministry was the 2018 winner of Apparo’s Website for Good Award which provides the winning grant applicant with a custom website valued at $20,000. Rabell Creative worked with Apparo and Crisis Assistance Ministry to provide a website that is well-designed to help the nonprofit better engage with clients, volunteers, and donors.

Ruth Ellen Connects Neighbors to Much Needed Benefits
A member of First Presbyterian Church and former employee of Bank of America, Ruth Ellen transitioned into the Benefits Access Counselor volunteer role almost two years ago. She is an extremely dedicated individual, supporting customers each week. Thus far, Ruth Ellen has worked over 125 hours, assessing customer needs and connecting each one with community resources for which they are eligible.

jane hixson wants Charlotte to be known for being a loving and giving community. Speaking about her neighbors who are experiencing financial crisis she says, “If we do not help them, it says a great deal about each one of us.” For decades, jane has demonstrated generosity of time and spirit and her support for Crisis Assistance Ministry has meant that struggling neighbors have received urgent assistance with life’s most basic needs.
