Warm Hearts, Warm Smiles For More Than 20 Years

More than two decades ago, then WSOC Meteorologist Steve Udelson saw a need and rallied the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community to solve it. That first year, viewers donated about 3,000 coats for people served by Crisis Assistance Ministry. By the time Steve retired, the annual collection was averaging more than 30,000 coats. All told, Steve’s Coats is […]

How Can We Not Help?

Every year, we collect thousands of coats for distribution through our Free Store and Partner Agency Network. Temperatures have dropped while there are still thousands without power and/or water in about ¼ of our state. We can help keep people warm by sharing the cold weather gear—hats, gloves, coats, blankets—so generously donated by our community.

Looking back at a standout moment from our 2025 summer internship program, when interns visited @RoofAbove to see partnership in action.

Their experience offered a behind-the-scenes look at the very fabric of nonprofit partnership and how deeply connected our community response truly is. From learning alongside partner organizations to seeing collaboration in action, our interns gained a greater understanding of how nonprofits work together to support neighbors in meaningful ways.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to help shape the next generation of leaders who understand that strong communities are built through connection, partnership, and shared purpose.

Hard work alone is often not enough to create stability. As students head back to school, many parents are facing an added burden: uniforms, school supplies, and other classroom needs on top of the everyday expenses they already struggle to cover.

Crisis Assistance Ministry helps bridge that gap for families who are doing everything they can but still falling short. Your support helps parents keep up with essential costs and gives children the tools they need to start the school year prepared.

This summer at Crisis Assistance Ministry, our Bank of America Student Leaders® interns are making just as much of a wave as the latest scuba dance on your feed. 🌊🕺

Sam put it best: “Why don’t we put in more work towards keeping people housed? By keeping them housed, they can continue to work, have an address, and be able to keep themselves afloat.”

From AI projects to front-line support, these students are proving that you don’t need a viral trend to create real change; you just need heart, hustle, and a chance to serve.

Big shoutout to @BankofAmerica for partnering with us and helping these young changemakers turn summer energy into community impact.

1,000 snacks, 1,000 reasons to say thank you.

@wellsfargo hosted a special event to assemble 1,000 snack packs for neighbors in need. Families visiting Crisis Assistance Ministry received many of these packs, and 100 were paired with turkey sandwiches and delivered to neighbors at @RoofAbove who were impacted by recent water damage to their facility.

Thank you, Wells Fargo, for showing up in such a big way for our community. 💛
