A Wave of Helping Hands at Crisis Assistance Ministry

Forget the basketball kind of Madness. This March was all about a different kind of frenzy at Crisis Assistance Ministry – a frenzy of helping hands!

A diverse crew of volunteers from all walks of life converged at Crisis Assistance Ministry, united by a single mission: lending a helping hand to their neighbors in need. It wasn’t about competition; it was about collaboration – a beautiful display of community spirit in action.

These volunteers brought more than just their time and energy. They brought a sense of hope and compassion that filled Crisis Assistance Ministry. Their dedication made a real difference in the lives of those seeking assistance.

So, let’s sprint through all the ways these volunteers made an impact in March.

Free Throws for Full Hearts

Imagine this: you’re facing a crisis, the kind that throws your entire world off balance. Worry weighs heavy, bills pile up, and basic needs seem impossible to meet. Now picture yourself rushing to Crisis Assistance Ministry for help, only to realize you haven’t eaten a bite since yesterday.

That’s where the amazing Breakfast Ministry volunteers step in! They understand that coming to Crisis Assistance Ministry can be a stressful and emotional experience. That’s why they’re there to offer a warm welcome, a listening ear, and, most importantly – a much-needed breakfast.

By offering nutritious breakfast items, they’re providing more than just food – they’re offering a moment of comfort, a chance to focus on solutions, and the strength to face whatever challenges lie ahead.

Snack Ministry Takes a Shot at Hunger

Meet the Snack Ministry, one of the pint-sized powerhouses of Crisis Assistance Ministry. Think of it as the snack-sized version of the Breakfast Ministry – just as dedicated, but with bite-sized portions that deliver a big impact. In March, the Snack Ministry volunteers understood that a rumbling tummy can make a tough day even tougher, so they were there to offer a pick-me-up and a friendly face to those in need.

Free Store Halftime Hustle

March can be a real jump shot – one minute you’re bundled up in winter gear, and the next you’re sweating through a surprise heatwave! This unpredictable weather can leave families scrambling to find clothes for their kids. But fear not, our amazing volunteers at the Free Store were like a well-oiled basketball team, swiftly pivoting to restock the shelves with fresh spring clothing. They made sure every customer had the right gear to play the game of life, regardless of the weather throwing curveballs their way!

Behind the Scenes: The All-Star Sorting Crew!

Every team needs a strong bench, and at Crisis Assistance Ministry, that bench is filled with the incredible volunteers in the production warehouse! They’re the unsung heroes, the folks working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the Free Store humming like a well-tuned engine.

Imagine them as the all-star sorting crew, meticulously inspecting and prepping donated items. They’re the ultimate quality control, making sure everything’s in tip-top shape before it hits the “court” (aka the Free Store shelves). Their dedication allowed the Free Store volunteers to focus on what they do best – getting those gently-used and brand new treasures into the hands of families who need them most. It’s a true team effort, and these sorting superstars play a vital role in the game of helping others!

Beyond the Three-Pointer: Crafting Comfort with No-Sew Blankets!

Not all heroes wear capes, some wear comfy clothes and wield… fabric scissors. Crisis Assistance Ministry’s amazing volunteers were a diverse bunch, and in March, some of them stepped up to the challenge of creating no-sew blankets. They were the ultimate three-point specialists – scoring big points in the comfort department!

These devoted folks weren’t aiming for the net but for cozy nights. They whipped up countless no-sew blankets, a perfect defense against those unexpected chilly spring evenings. It’s a slam dunk for warmth and a heartwarming example of how even the simplest acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Beyond the Scoreboard: Thank You March Volunteers

A huge shoutout to all the incredible volunteers who brought their A-game to Crisis Assistance Ministry this March! They were like a championship team, working together to slam dunk challenges and score big for families in need. Their dedication is truly beyond any stat sheet – the impact they made goes way deeper than any scoreboard can measure. Thanks for everything!

Inspired! Last week, the Middle School Ministry from Thomas Road Baptist Church (Lynchburg, VA) @ThomasRoad traveled over 200 miles to serve our Mecklenburg County neighbors.

Despite the heat, these young people delivered 150 snack packs and cold water and meticulously stocked the Free Store with dignity.

There's always a place for volunteer groups here. Head over to our link in bio to sign up.

"It could have been way worse... I was on the emergence of a deployment and I couldn't get any help here from family and friends."

George, an active service member, courageously shares his #LivedExperience of facing a financial crisis while deployed. He found a lifeline at Crisis Assistance Ministry, securing vital rental and utility assistance. Since 1975, we have been here lifting up our neighbors so that no one has to face financial hardship alone.

For 50 years, neighbors like George have found what they needed at Crisis Assistance Ministry to achieve financial stability. His is just one of #50StoriesofCrisisAssistance Ministry we're sharing in recognition of #50yearsofhopeCLT.

Full circle moments! ✨ In our 50th Anniversary year, we were so honored to welcome students from @queensuniv, carrying forward a legacy started by our founder, Queens alumna Caroline Love Myers!

This amazing group spent their afternoon meticulously stocking our Free Store and processing incoming donations – turning generous gifts into dignified essentials for families in crisis.

These students reminded us that these shelves stay full because of YOU, our incredible material goods donors! Your contributions directly empower families. Want to keep this legacy of compassion thriving? Learn how to donate goods: Link in Bio!

🥵 We are feeling the Charlotte heat! For many neighbors, staying cool isn't just about comfort—it's critical. Extreme heat disproportionately impacts lower-income communities due to factors like urban heat islands and historical disinvestment.

Here at Crisis Assistance Ministry, the community comes together to help households pay their utilities, ensuring families can have air conditioning or running fans during these sweltering days. You can be the neighbor to help keep the electricity on! Link in bio to learn more and give.

Twenty-five years of heart. 25 years of steadfast leadership. ✨ We're honoring our CEO, Carol Hardison, for a quarter-century of dedicated service to Crisis Assistance Ministry and our neighbors. It's remarkable, especially considering she's only the second CEO in our 50-year journey!

Meck County and the City of Charlotte have opened cooling stations across the area, including:
•	Day Service Centers
•	Recreation & Senior Centers
•	Charlotte Mecklenburg Libraries
•	Spraygrounds, Pools & Beaches!

PLUS, CATS (@ridecats) is offering FREE transportation to cooling stations.

This is critical for a variety of populations, including those experiencing homelessness, seniors, and families struggling with utility costs. Access to cool spaces and resources like fans (available from Mecklenburg County DSS for eligible residents!) can literally be life-saving.

KNOW THE SIGNS: Heat illness is preventable! Drink water, limit activity, and seek cool spaces. Spread the word! Visit @mecklenburgcounty for more details.
