More Than a Job

Meet Chelsey Fisher, the dedicated Financial Stability Caseworker recently honored as Crisis Assistance Ministry's Employee of the Year. Her story isn't just about professional achievement, it's a testament to the transformative power of this organization.

April 16, 2024

Meet Chelsey Fisher, the dedicated Financial Stability Caseworker recently honored as one of Crisis Assistance Ministry’s Employees of the Year. Her story isn’t just about professional achievement. It’s a testament to the transformative power of this organization.

For Chelsey, Charlotte has been home for nearly six years. Though her family lives four hours away, their bond is undeniable. “They’re the most loving, forgiving, constant, and selfless group of people I’ve ever met,” she says.

A Path Forged Through Challenge

Chelsey’s arrival at Crisis Assistance Ministry wasn’t by chance. A series of unforeseen events led her to the agency, and in her own words, “Crisis Assistance Ministry is more than a job; it is a part of my testimony.”

Her journey began in August 2019 as a contractor, transitioning to a full-time employee in February 2020. Now, nestled in her office here at Spratt St, she conducts client interviews, a crucial step in the agency’s support system.

The Weight of Compassion

Financial Stability Casework presents its share of challenges. “[The hardest part is] not being able to ‘save them all’ or rescue everyone from their hardship,” she admits. Yet, she finds immense satisfaction in her customers. “The best part of my job is my customers, hands down,” she declares. “When I can’t offer anything but kindness, I do that.”

A Circle of Support

Gratitude fuels Chelsey’s dedication to Crisis Assistance Ministry and the people served here. “My coworkers, leaders, and our customers make me want to give 100% every day,” she shares. “[My supervisor] told me every day is a job interview, and that is how I treat every day. I show up just like Crisis Assistance Ministry has done for me and my family.”

Beyond the Application: Empathy in Action

What keeps her going? “Customers, customers, customers – always on my mind,” she emphasizes. It’s all about finding ways to serve them better.

“Regardless of the events that took place in someone’s life before they walked through our doors, everyone that we see is experiencing a crisis,” she observes. “Customers can come to us on their worst day,” she says, “and we get the opportunity to be there for them.”

Life After Work: Finding Balance

When she’s not at Crisis Assistance Ministry, Chelsey cherishes time with her husband. They enjoy sporting events, amusement parks, exploring new restaurants, and traveling the world. Her furry companion, Stella, a Pomsky, is another source of joy. Long walks by the lake and trying new recipes with Stella as her taste tester are some of her favorite ways to unwind.

Memorable Milestones

Reflecting on her time at Crisis Assistance Ministry, two moments stand out: winning Employee of the Year and the surprise wedding party thrown by a colleague. “Every single day is significant,” she acknowledges, “but they were both full circle days for me, and I’ll never forget them.”

Looking Forward: Growth and Gratitude

Chelsey sees her future intertwined with Crisis Assistance Ministry. “Literally, this job,” she answers when asked about her career aspirations.  “I want to continue to grow with Crisis Assistance Ministry… as long as I get to stay here, put me wherever, and I’ll be happy.”

From volunteer to champion, Chelsey embodies the spirit of this organization, offering hope and a way forward to families in need.

Thank you, Chelsey, for your daily dedication to serving our neighbors and stabilizing families right here in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

—

Chelsey is one of approximately 53 employees who put Crisis Assistance Ministry’s mission into action every day in direct service or support roles. Employee of the Year recipients are nominated by their peers for embodying the organization’s core values of Dignity, Integrity, Respect, Empathy, Compassion, & Trust in the fulfillment of their roles.

Congratulations to Sil Ganzó, from @ourbridgeforkids, for being named the 2025 Charlotte Woman of the Year!

At Crisis Assistance Ministry, we are honored to see her recognized alongside two leaders from our own history: founding CEO Caroline Love Myers and current CEO Carol Hardison who were both named Charlotte Woman of the Year.

All three women share a powerful common thread: they listen closely to neighbors who are often overlooked, create spaces where every family can belong, and turn urgent community needs into lasting change for Charlotte.

We are deeply honored to share this legacy and to celebrate Sil Ganzó as the 2025 Charlotte Woman of the Year.
