Help Families Be Ready to Learn
As the new school year begins, thousands of students flock to classes. There are always the first-day jitters of meeting new friends and new classes. For some students, there is also the worry of making sure they have a uniform to wear. In the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system, there are more than 40 public schools that require uniforms. For some families, having the right combination of colors, in the right sizes, after a summer of extra costs can be daunting.
You can easily help out by visiting Crisis Assistance Ministry’s Amazon Wish List. It is as easy as selecting an item from the list and adding it to your cart. Once you make your purchase, uniform items will be shipped directly to Crisis Assistance Ministry for distribution to Mecklenburg County families free of charge.
Year-Round Need
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools began this week, but there’s still time to help families start the new school year ready to learn. In fact, school uniforms are a year-round need.
The Wish List works year-round. But, if online shopping isn’t for you, another option is dropping off new or gently used items at the donation drive-thru at 500-A Spratt St., Charlotte, NC 28206. Donations are accepted Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Students needing uniforms range from Pre-K to high school and wear sizes ranging from 3T-adult, including husky and plus sizes for all age groups.
If you’re hitting the sales or just purging outgrown garments in your children’s closets, our handy downloadable Uniform Shopping Guide can help you grab the most-needed items. In the meantime, here are the basics:
- Golf/polo shirts in solid colors: white, navy, light blue, red, or hunter green.
- Pants, shorts, skirts in khaki, navy or black.
Some students will also need sweaters in navy or black, solid-colored socks, and black or brown belts.
With the next school year quickly approaching, you can be sure your donations will help students have their best first day and a successful school year.
